Health & Community Studies Candidates

The following candidates are running uncontested for the Health & Community Studies candidate positions. When voting please select yes to approve of the candidate or no to disapprove of the candidate.

Binita Khadka, Disabilities Studies

I am Binita Khadka, currently, a student at NorQuest College engaged in the new program DISABILITY STUDIES.

I am running in the Students’ Association election because I believe the selected student will have the ability to drive change by leading. It will also help me to interact with students from diverse cultures and raise their voices for the right to education.

Being in the student council I will be committed to creating an environment that is better for everyone as well as fun. I would love to take this as a great opportunity to be together for all of us.

Johnny Oum, Indigenous Studies

Hi everyone, my name is Johnny Oum (Black Bear Walks Softly) and I would like to run for your Faculty of Health & Community Studies Representative.

A bit about myself: I am an Indigenous and Cambodian student in the Indigenous Studies Program. My ultimate goal is to pursue a career in Indigenous Relations where I can be that midpoint towards reconciliation.

I am a huge advocate in mental health and human empowerment, and as a Student Councillor, I would love to help promote these important discussions to better unite us as a community! I believe every single one of us has the potential to succeed, and we must uplift each other in order to foster this.

Diversity and inclusion are such an important culture at this day and age, and I really want to help these on campus through the celebration of our differences; our differences are what make us unique and bring in such beauty into the community!

As a Student Councillor, I want to be a positive voice on campus that can help others in any capacity: I want to advocate for you in any way I can. A teaching my Nisikos (Spirit Mother in Cree) taught me is that “culture is not only for [one group], but rather it’s for everyone to share.” There is such beauty in this teaching, as it brings the kinship and unitedness in the sense community I believe in.

Please consider supporting me; aiy hiy (thank you in Cree, but in prayer)!

As your representative, it will be my duty to make sure that your voices are heard and your opinions are valued.

My goal is to represent the views of the students in front of the college management. I also want to facilitate an enhanced communication between the students, staff, and management.

Pushpdeep Singh, Business Administration

Hi everyone, my name is Pushpdeep Singh and I am in my second year of Business Administration Program. I love to make new friends and traveling.

Being a part of SANQC reminds me about various opportunities and becoming a part of Students’ Council is one of those. I feel that I have the skills to become a Students’ Council Member. Moreover, I will get a different experience of communicating with more students which will help me build my confidence. This will bring more enhancement in my overall development. Moreover, I will try to help each and every student whenever they need help.

Vaishnavi Bhawsar, Business Administration

My name is Vaishnavi Bhawsar and I am currently enrolled in my fourth semester of the Business Administration – Human Resource Management Diploma. I am CPHR Campus Ambassador of NorQuest College, where I represent college across the province, a Peer Mentor at the International Peer Mentorship Program to help new students in any aspects, volunteer at few other places and work part-time as an electronic sales associate.

As an international student and through my volunteer work, I have worked with diverse populations of individuals and have been exposed to many different environments that have honed my ability to be versatile, adaptable, foresighted and a good listener. As a Student Council Representative, I feel that I can put forward our point of view, and together we can make a difference.
