SANQC’s Statement • Standing Against Racism

June 3, 2020

Yesterday we paused our social media to intentionally disrupt our regular business and to take time to listen to how we could best support our community of learners.

The Students’ Association of NorQuest College acknowledges the pain and suffering that Black, Indigenous and racialized people are experiencing because of these recent tragedies and we stand with you.

We value the diversity of our students, staff and community. We are committed to listening and creating space for lived experiences and stories to be shared. It is through this sharing that we believe we will deepen our sense of community and belonging.

We will continue to create safe spaces for open and honest dialogue so that the conversation does not fade with time, but grows in strength. We will focus on identifying obstacles and barriers so that we can help find ways to establish real change.

We will continue to be a resource of information; finding and sharing resources of importance and value to our community.

We stand against racism, intolerance and injustice. The events of the past week have reinforced that we need to stand together today, and every day, in facing racism in all its forms.
